At Sacred Heart we share a strong commitment to be a vibrant parish & an instrument of Christ’s presence in the Canton community, building on the strong foundation of many years of parish ministry. 

The Sacred Heart parish community initially gathered for Mass in the homes of Catholic families living in the Sulphur Springs area of Madison County. In 1859 a small brick church was erected & consecrated by Fr. Francis Pont, establishing Sacred Heart Parish, and on June 15, 1860 Bishop William Henry Elder blessed the church and the parish of Sacred Heart on the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
